Dollie Henry – Choreographer, Creative Theatre Director and Educator
Dollie Henry has led a respected career of 35 years as a performer, choreographer, theatre director, creative Jazz artist and educator and is recognised as one of the most formidable exponents of artistic and creative Jazz theatre dance in the UK, Europe and internationally. She has shared her passion and philosophy of Jazz and dance in every continent of the world, with a reputation that is widely revered and respected.
Her breadth and depth of work as a performer, creative artist, theatre director, choreographer and producer has been vast and varied ranging from - West End Theatre Productions, Theatre Plays, Film and TV to Musical Theatre, Concert Theatre Dance and Jazz Theatre productions world-wide.
Dollie is Founder and Co- Artistic Director of the UK’s Premier Jazz Dance, Music and Theatre Company - Body of People (BOP). Now in its 22nd year, BOP has produced an array of Jazz Theatre productions, Musical Theatre and concert shows and continues to spread the company mission and ethos and to raise the platform for the Art form and creativity of the Jazz aesthetic.
In 2012, BOP Company became artistic Company-in-Residence at Morley College London. Through the company, Dollie’s creative and commissioned theatre and dance works continue to be performed by dance artists, dance companies and presented in theatre venues internationally.
As part of Dollie's on-going educational philosophy, she has initiated The BOP Jazz Dance Education Program 'Jazz Dance for Life' in the UK, Europe and the Caribbean. Her creative and educational outreach takes in Dance Companies, Performing Arts Colleges and Dance Schools. Over the last 25 years, Dollie has shared her experience, expertise and jazz artistry through her Dance and Theatre Educational Programs, residencies, workshops, mentoring programs and Jazz classes.
Dollie is a regular guest Jazz teacher at Broadway Dance Center and Faison Firehouse Theatre, New York and can still be found teaching her spirited open Jazz dance classes at Pineapple Dance Studios in London. She is also Jazz Lecturer/Practitioner on the Musical Theatre Degree course at Trinity Laban Music and Dance Conservatoire, London, an Associate Teacher of ISTD (Imperial Society of Teachers Dance) and Honorary Member with IDTA (International Dance Teachers Association).
As an experienced practitioner and mentor, Ms Henry is instrumental in mentoring the careers of many dancers now performing in established dance companies, musical theatre productions and concert dance shows all over the world and continues to mentor through her, BOP Company Jazz and Theatre workshops and Residencies offered to the next generation of aspiring jazz artists, performers and dancers.
Dollie Henry epitomises all it is to be a consummate, all-encompassing creative artist. A fusion of expertise and genuine expression of creative spirit allows this lady to sustain her position as the catalyst for the Jazz dance art form and its legacy in the UK and Europe, enabling her to share her passion and creativity all over the world.
